January 2025 Inbetweeners Animation Group Meetings

January 2025 In-Person Gathering
Happy 2025! The first in-person meeting of the Inbetweeners took place on Tuesday, Jan. 21st from 6:30pm–9:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood Library.

Our meeting format has changed--we will now be facilitating PASSION PROJECT WORKSHOPS. So bring your laptop or sketchbook and let's get to work making art for the kingdom!

During our meetings we will now be splitting into small groups of 2-3 people where you can request support on your Passion Projects in the following four ways:
(1) Feedback (2) Brainstorming, (3) Strategizing, (4) Resource Sharing

If you’re a Christian working in animation—whether you're a veteran, a student, or somewhere in between—consider this your invitation to join us at future gatherings. Let’s build something beautiful together!
January 2025 Online Gathering
? New Virtual Meeting Format
Each meeting will focus on supporting your creative vision while offering practical advice and collaboration! Here’s how it will go:
1️⃣ Project Showcase:
Each selected project gets up to 20 minutes to shine! Share your work-in-progress through a screen share, presentation slides, video trailer, or any format that best represents your project. If you can't for any reason, feel free to email us your project material and we'll screenshare it for you.  ?️✨

2️⃣ Group Feedback & Brainstorming:
Fellow InBetweeners will ask insightful questions and offer encouragement, ideas, and solutions tailored to your needs. ??
3️⃣ Best Practices Checklists:
We’ve created Google Docs with detailed best practices for major animation production pipeline roles: Writing, Storyboarding, 2D Animation, 3D Animation, Tools, Budgeting, and more! ?️✏️
  • Access the checklists: Best Practices Checklist
  • Before the meeting, take a moment to review the checklist that applies to your role or project. You can also add suggestions or comments to help the whole group grow! ?
4️⃣ Progress Sharing:
Got an update on your project? Use our shared Discord chat to let the group know where you’re at. These updates will be accessible to everyone, making it easy to stay connected and support one another! ?️✨
? Simple Steps to Submit Your Project
Ready to share your passion project during a workshop session? Follow these easy steps:
1️⃣ Write a short summary about your project.
  • What’s it about?
  • What kind of help do you need? (It’s okay if you’re not sure yet!)
2️⃣ Submit your summary by emailing us.
3️⃣ Keep an eye on your email for confirmation that your project will be featured in the next meeting! ?
?️ General Checklist for All Projects
Here’s a quick sneak peek of some best practices we’ll be reviewing:
✅ Solidify your story structure: Does your script have a beginning, middle, and end?
✅ Create clear character designs: Are your characters visually engaging and consistent?
✅ Refine your animation techniques: Are movements fluid and on-model?
✅ Manage your project timeline and budget: Do you have realistic goals?
✅ Use the right tools: Are you leveraging software like Toon Boom, Blender, or Maya effectively?
✅ Collaborate well: Have you set clear roles and expectations for your team?

? Looking Ahead to February
We’re considering transitioning from Google Meet to Discord Video Chat for future virtual gatherings. This will allow for smoother collaboration and real-time engagement. If you’d like to weigh in on this decision, be sure to fill out our Super Short Survey,! ?
We’re so excited to see how God will use these workshops to bring your creative visions to life. Don’t forget to mark your calendars, spread the word, and start preparing your project summaries!
