The glitz and glam of Old Hollywood came alive on Saturday night. Over 300 members of the Hollywood Prayer Network community came out dressed to the nines for an absolutely sensational 25th Anniversary Gatsby Gala, hosted within the stunning art deco surroundings of the Cicada Restaurant and Lounge in downtown Los Angeles.

From the dazzling red carpet entrance to the jubilant dance floor, the gala was a fete to remember. But even more impactful than the soiree's sights and sounds were the moments that reminded us why Hollywood Prayer Network's mission is vital: moments of connection, worship, and prayer that have the power to uplift and transform lives -- and which have been radiating out from HPN's ministry for the past twenty-five years.

As we walk back through this fabulous evening, we invite you to prayerfully consider the legacy of Hollywood Prayer Network's first twenty-five years, and how you can be a part of shaping the next twenty-five.

The evening began with a classic Hollywood red-carpet entrance. Every single guest looked like the absolute cat's meow in their formal wear, flapper wear, and all-around dapper wear.

In their marvelous milieu of modern and 20's fashions, guests rubbed elbows as they mingled, posed for photos, and gave red-carpet interviews, all set to the sounds of classic jazz standards performed live on the keys by Yakub Saputraya.

The red carpet then beckoned guests onward through the Cicada's iconic art deco doors and into the heart of the celebration.

Once inside, guests enjoyed two floors of art deco elegance. In the upstairs lounge, Sylvia Rodriguez & the Rhythm Boys played jazz standards while guests enjoyed delectable hors d'oeuvres and drinks at the Gatsby reception.

The second-floor lounge also hosted the offerings of HPN's Silent Auction, which included stunning weekend getaways, acting and coaching classes, the iconic WB studio tour, a selection of original classic movie posters, and more!

On the main floor, guests headed to the dance floor for lessons on the Charleston, Tango, and Foxtrot. The main floor also featured the Legacy Gallery, which highlighted the vital pillars of HPN's ministry, including our Community Groups, Global Local Chapters, Events, and Prayer.

Most importantly, amidst the dancing, laughter, noshing, silent-auction-bidding, and reflecting on HPN's legacy, this time of fellowship allowed for moments of genuine connection, community-building, and prayer that are the core of HPN's ministry.

During dinner, guests enjoyed the phenomenal main event. Hosted by emcee Ryan Bethea, HPN's program recapped the first twenty-five years of the ministry, and set the stage for the next twenty-five years to come.

Founding Director Karen Covell and her husband Jim Covell reflected together on HPN's early days, with Karen proclaiming, "It was the slowest-growing ministry on the planet!" From humble beginnings, with Karen emailing people one by one asking them to pray for Hollywood, HPN has now grown into a thriving ministry with over 170 local chapters worldwide.

Program Director Kelry Kirschenmann joined Karen onstage to highlight the vital work HPN is currently performing as part of its daily ministry. Over 20 Community Groups gather each month, providing nourishing spaces for community and prayer. The Professional Discipleship Program, launched in 2025, provides an incredible 8-week intensive program of spiritual and professional formation, followed by a 6-month mentorship with a working industry professional. HPN hosts major events throughout the year, which bring the community together for times of prayer, worship, and encouragement that are vital to not just surviving but thriving in L.A.--and these are just a few examples of all that HPN's ministry does in Hollywood and around the globe!

A viewing of the 25th Anniversary Video showcased just how important and impactful the ministry has been to so many.

Hollywood Prayer Network could not have had such impact without vital partners over the years, and we were proud to honor Joan Lindsey and the Lindsey Foundation with an award thanking them for their crucial support over the years.

Karen and Kelry then laid out the vision for the next twenty-five years: to grow and expand HPN's ministry by building capacity, strengthening local chapters, and offering more spaces for the community to gather. Our Vision Deck lays out the strategy for the Future of Hollywood, and provides more detail on the areas of impact we are inviting our community to sow into.

As HPN Board Member Garland Hunt, Jr. invited the the community to a time of prayerful giving, the room was blessed by a musical offering from Tim Kirsch, who shifted the atmosphere and brought the room to its feet in worship with a saxophone rendition of "Goodness of God."

The program was then capped by an electrifying performance from recording artist MAJOR., who brought the house down with a soul-stirring performance of his original song "I Prayed For You."

Feet began to tap as The Jazz Cartel took the stage, bringing the dance floor to life with a rousing set of jazz and big band standards that kept the party hopping all night.

When not having a hotsy-totsy time on the dance floor, guests had the opportunity to visit the Phone Booth upstairs and record a message for HPN, as well as pose in our Photo Booth for a swell souvenir photo strip to take home.

As the night wound down, guests lingered to enjoy the beauty of the space, the atmosphere of joy, and most of all, the dazzling community of people who genuinely love and care for one another.

In August, Between Takes continued to be a place for meaningful conversation, prayer, and brotherhood. Gathering on Saturday morning gave us space to slow down and check in with one another, reflecting on both the personal and professional seasons we are currently walking through.

There was a spirit of openness as men shared what they were learning, where they were being challenged, and where they needed encouragement. We were reminded again of the importance of staying connected to God and to one another, especially in an industry that can often feel isolating. It was a good morning of fellowship and a chance to strengthen the relationships that make this community what it is.

July’s Between Takes gathering gave us another opportunity to step away from the busyness of work and simply be present with one another. We spent the morning talking honestly about the challenges, opportunities, and questions that come with working in entertainment while seeking to remain faithful to Christ.

The conversation brought plenty of wisdom and perspective as men shared from their own experiences and encouraged one another. Our time together was a reminder of the value of having a community where we can be known, speak honestly, and continue growing in faith alongside one another.

In June, Between Takes continued creating space for men working in entertainment to gather as brothers, reconnect, and encourage one another in faith. Our Saturday morning time centered on honest conversation about where we are in life and work, with space to reflect on what God is doing and where we need His guidance.

As we shared openly with one another, there was a strong sense of camaraderie and support. It was a meaningful reminder that following Jesus in the entertainment industry is not something we are meant to do in isolation, but alongside brothers who can pray with us, challenge us, and walk with us through every season.

In May, we spent time reconnecting, praying for one another, and seeking the Lord together as a community of men working in entertainment. The evening provided an opportunity to slow down, reflect on God’s faithfulness, and encourage one another to remain grounded in Christ amid the demands and pressures of the industry.

The conversation was thoughtful and life-giving, with men sharing insights, experiences, and practical ways they have seen God at work in their lives. It was a meaningful reminder of the importance of brotherhood, accountability, and making space for God to meet us right where we are.

In April, we continued gathering together as brothers in Christ, creating space for honest conversation, prayer, and encouragement in the midst of the unique challenges of the entertainment industry. As always, our time centered on Scripture and what it looks like to follow Jesus faithfully in both our personal and professional lives.

The discussion was marked by openness and authenticity as men shared victories, struggles, and prayer needs. It was encouraging to see relationships deepen and to witness the strength that comes from walking alongside one another in faith. We left reminded that none of us are meant to navigate this journey alone.

In March, we continued leaning into the theme of the Father’s love, and it was clear the Lord still had more to say. We spent time in 1 Peter 2:5, talking about what it means to be living stones being built into a spiritual house, and it led to a powerful and wide-ranging discussion.

We also spent time in the story of the prodigal son, reflecting on where each of us might find ourselves—on the way home, in the house, or outside striving. It opened up a deep and honest conversation, and there was a real sense of the Lord ministering to each person in a personal way.

In February, we had two really meaningful gatherings. Early in the month, we talked about what it looks like to “hit a wall”—something that can feel especially real after starting the year with high hopes that don’t always go as planned. We spent time in Romans 5:3–5 and had an incredible conversation around how suffering produces hope. One of the questions that stood out most was, “What’s the harvest that awaits you on the other side of your perseverance?”—and it opened the door for some really honest and encouraging shares.

Later in the month, the focus shifted to the Father’s heart. It was a deeply meaningful night as we spent time in Ephesians 1:3–5, talking about sonship and how vital that is, especially in Hollywood. There was a strong sense of the Lord’s presence as stories were shared and walls came down. The idea of Hollywood as a “terrible stepfather” really resonated, and it became one of those gatherings where you could feel how much the Lord was encouraging each person in His love. It was a powerful time together and one that left everyone feeling strengthened and seen.

In August, DirecTruth continued its monthly rhythm of bringing Christian film directors together for conversation, prayer, and community. The gathering offered a chance to step away from the pressures of the industry and reconnect with God and with one another.

As directors shared life and creative experiences, the group continued to grow in authenticity and trust, creating space to support one another through the highs and lows of the calling.

July’s DirecTruth gathering brought film directors together for a meaningful evening of fellowship and connection. The group spent time sharing from their current seasons, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities of the directing journey, and encouraging one another in faith.

It was another opportunity to build genuine relationships within a community committed to pursuing both creative integrity and spiritual depth.

In June, DirecTruth gathered film directors for another evening of faith, conversation, and community. The group had space to connect honestly about life and work, share what they are navigating in their directing careers, and encourage one another along the way.

Through prayer and conversation, the gathering continued to create a space where directors can come without the pressure to perform or network, but simply be known, supported, and grounded in Christ.

In May, DirecTruth brought together film directors for another monthly gathering centered on faith, creativity, and community. The evening offered a space to step away from the demands of production and industry expectations in order to reconnect with God and with one another.

Through conversation, prayer, and shared reflection, directors encouraged one another in the midst of their current projects and season of work. The gathering continued to reinforce the heart of the community—authentic connection without performance, and a shared commitment to pursue storytelling that flows from spiritual depth and integrity.

In April, DirecTruth continued to grow as a Christ-centered community for film directors seeking authentic relationships, creative integrity, and spiritual depth. Directors gathered for a relaxed evening of conversation, prayer, and reflection on the realities of their work in the film industry.

The gathering provided space for honest dialogue around the challenges and opportunities of the directing calling, as well as encouragement to remain grounded in faith amid the pressures of creative leadership. As trust and familiarity continued to develop, the evening strengthened the sense of shared purpose and reminded participants of the value of walking alongside one another in both life and vocation.

In March, DirecTruth officially launched as a new vocational community for Christian film directors seeking authentic relationships, spiritual encouragement, and creative fellowship. Directors from a variety of backgrounds and career stages gathered to connect, share their experiences, and explore what it means to pursue storytelling while remaining rooted in their faith.

The launch celebration created space for meaningful conversation, prayer, and reflection on the unique joys and challenges of the directing vocation. Rather than focusing on networking or professional advancement, the gathering emphasized genuine community, creative integrity, and a shared desire to honor God through the art of filmmaking. It was an encouraging beginning to what promises to be a rich and supportive fellowship for directors navigating both their calling and their craft.

August’s Praying Producers gathering brought together working producers for a meaningful time of connection and prayer. As the group shared about the realities of producing in today’s industry, there was space to encourage one another and seek God’s direction for both personal and professional challenges.

The evening was a reminder of the importance of authentic community and of inviting the Holy Spirit into the work we’ve been entrusted with. The group continues to gather with a shared desire to see God move through the lives and projects represented in the room.

In July, Praying Producers gathered for another evening of fellowship, prayer, and encouragement among working producers. The gathering offered space to connect with fellow producers, share what’s happening in their work, and reflect on how faith shapes the way we lead and create.

The group spent time praying over current projects and the people involved in them, continuing to encourage one another to lead with excellence, creativity, and wisdom.

The June Praying Producers gathering featured special guest Merlinda Balmas, who shared insights from her 15 years in Marketing at WB and her previous experience at Sony. After enjoying food and fellowship, the group heard about the marketing campaign for Barbie and some of the behind-the-scenes pre-planning and challenges Merlinda has encountered throughout her career.

In May, Praying Producers gathered for another impactful evening of fellowship, prayer, and encouragement among working producers in Hollywood. The gathering created space for attendees to step away from the constant pace of the industry and reconnect with one another through meaningful conversation and shared faith.

Throughout the night, producers prayed over current projects, upcoming opportunities, and the broader state of the entertainment industry, while also encouraging one another to continue leading with creativity, wisdom, and integrity. Conversations reflected both the realities of producing and the hope that comes from pursuing a greater purpose within the work.

More than anything, the evening highlighted the strength of community. As relationships continue to deepen month after month, Praying Producers remains a place where industry professionals can be known, supported, and spiritually refreshed while seeking to influence Hollywood through prayer and faithful leadership.

In August, KWA Screenwriters continued gathering as a community of writers seeking to navigate the entertainment industry with faith and purpose. The afternoon gave participants an opportunity to reconnect, build relationships, and share honestly about their experiences in screenwriting.

Through conversation and prayer, the group encouraged one another to keep pursuing their craft while staying grounded in what matters most. It was another meaningful time of fellowship and a reminder that there is strength in walking this creative journey together.

The gathering provided a welcoming environment for those working in screenwriting to come together, build community, and find encouragement alongside others on a similar path. Grounded in faith, the time served as a reminder that no one is navigating the journey alone.

In April, the KWA Screenwriters group gathered in The Library at First Presbyterian Church Hollywood for an afternoon of community, fellowship, and prayer. Screenwriters came together to connect, share conversation, and support one another as they navigate writing for film and television. The time offered a steady space for encouragement and reflection in the midst of the industry.

March’s KWA gathering was another encouraging afternoon centered on community and prayer. Writers came together to connect, share life, and lift one another up, creating a space that felt both grounding and uplifting. It continues to be a place where relationships are built, faith is strengthened, and writers are reminded of God’s presence in every part of their journey.

In February, KWA continued to be a steady place of connection for screenwriters navigating the industry. The group gathered to spend time in conversation, and pray for one another and the projects they’re carrying. It was a refreshing time of fellowship, with a focus on encouragement and being reminded that no one is walking this path alone. 

In January, KWA began the year with a meaningful time of gathering, as screenwriters came together for community, fellowship, and prayer. It was a great opportunity to reconnect after the holidays, share what’s been on each person’s heart, and start the year grounded in faith. The afternoon was simple but encouraging, creating space for writers to be supported not just in their work, but in their walk with God.  

In August, Adorned Fashion Fellowship continued to grow as a community for Christians working across the fashion industry. The evening offered a chance to connect, share, and pray together while reflecting on the unique opportunities and challenges of living out faith in the industry.

It was another meaningful time of encouragement and connection as the group continues pursuing a shared vision for transformation in fashion.

In March, Adorned Fashion Fellowship welcomed returning and new members for another Spirit-led gathering centered on community and encouragement. Professionals representing a wide range of roles within the fashion industry came together to connect, share, and pray for one another.

The evening fostered a sense of trust and openness, as attendees navigated the unique challenges of the industry together. Through conversation and prayer, the group continued to cultivate a space where faith and creativity intersect, strengthening one another to walk out their callings with integrity and grace.

In February, Adorned Fashion Fellowship gathered once again, continuing to build on the strong foundation established at its launch. Christian professionals from across the fashion industry came together for an evening of connection, prayer, and encouragement, creating a space set apart from the pace and pressure of their work.

Led by Erin Noël, the gathering invited attendees to reflect on their calling within fashion while supporting one another in both faith and profession. The time was marked by meaningful conversation, shared experiences, and intentional prayer, as the group continued to grow in unity and purpose.

In 2001, I quit a job I loved as a producer on a television show because I wanted to be home with my two boys. I jumped into being a full-time Mom...until I realized I needed something else to do.  I found myself pondering something that had been on my mind for years: my frustration with the relationship between the Church and Hollywood.

Back in 1983, Jim and I had started a prayer group with our dear friend Soozie.  We met each month with a growing group of Christians in LA who were entertainment industry professionals.  Besides making great friends, new working associates, and partners, we had one thing in common: no one from our families or churches understood why we would come to Hollywood and work in the evil entertainment business.  We heard story after story of people moving to LA despite discouragement from their families, pastors, and friends, who all thought that they were making a very bad decision.

In contrast, I loved LA.  I loved my work, my friends, my church, and my amazing Christian community.  It made no sense that Christians outside of Hollywood would be so afraid or so hateful of Hollywood that they would try to stop talented believers from coming here.  I decided that it was time to bridge the gap between The Church and Hollywood.

I knew I could never get Hollywood to like the church, because we boycotted Films, TV shows and Creative professionals; we threw out our television sets and burned our books. As a people group, Christians are not known for being a loving ally.  But I did and still do believe that if you pray for someone, you can’t hate them.

My vision was to start a non-profit that mobilized a network of Christians to pray for the people, the projects and the issues in Hollywood -- the world’s most influential mission field. And in August of 2001, I founded the Hollywood Prayer Network (HPN).

I often joke that HPN was the slowest-growing ministry on the planet.  It began with me sitting in my home office, emailing people one at a time to ask if they would pray for Hollywood and the people here who impact the world with their stories. That fall, I filmed the first HPN video: a six-minute promo called "The Hollywood Crisis," which talked about how the relationship between Christians outside of Hollywood and Hollywood professionals was a Crisis, and encouraged people to please pray.

I got great support from a few people in our community. One man at the Hollywood Presbyterian Church took me under his wing, helping me to raise money so I could start sending out the promo video and print materials for mailings. These efforts led to a grant that allowed me to have a part-time assistant. I started writing a monthly email and hard-copy newsletter on How to Pray for Hollywood. Slowly, word spread and our community grew. I began to hear from people across the country who said they wanted to represent HPN in their cities, and our first local chapters were formed. That sparked interest from people around the world, who wanted to form their own local HPN chapters, and suddenly I was International!

As the ministry grew, I encountered incredible resistance from the Church. I received emails saying that I wasn't really a Christian if I worked in Hollywood; I was hung up on during a live Christian radio show; and I found my name on a HATE LIST from a church in the Midwest.  All of these incidents opened my eyes to the true spiritual battle that I was up against.  My response was to dig in even deeper to address the relationship between the Church and Hollywood.  I started working as a producer again, and went full force into HPN.

About 15 years into my Hollywood prayer journey, I saw a real shift in our community and produced my second HPN video, this time called “The Hollywood Tribe.”  It showed how we had come out of the crisis and formed a tribe of like-minded people in Hollywood who worked with integrity, shared our faith, and encouraged other Christians to move here and join us.

Around this time, I became actively involved in the Producers Guild of America, and as a working producer was able to live out my Hollywood prayer journey by loving my fellow professionals and sharing my faith along the way.

The ministry was also growing during this time, spreading to even more cities across the US and internationally, including in the UK, Ireland, and Israel. I felt it was time to produce yet another video, this time called “The Hollywood Community,” which demonstrated the need for prayer in Hollywood and showcased some of the incredible working professionals who had become part of our HPN community.

We had grown from a Crisis, to a small Tribe of followers, to now an active Community of Christians in Hollywood.  I was encouraged by the potential of the cause, the slow but consistent growth of the ministry, and the passion I was seeing in some of my industry friends.

Then, in 2020, I met a young lady who changed my world.  Kelry Kirschenmann, newly transplanted from Wisconsin to LA, tracked me down and said she wanted to work for me.  At the time, I didn’t have an opening on my staff or the money to hire another staff member, but we started praying together regularly. A few months later, when my assistant had to leave, I knew it was time to hire Kelry.

I quickly learned that Kelry was a big thinker, a visionary, and had a faith I only imagined having. Not long after she jumped on board, she threw an HPN 20th birthday party, and in August of 2021, over 500 people came out of Covid to celebrate Hollywood, Prayer, and Community! It was glorious.

By 2023, the ministry had begun to expand exponentially, and Kelry and I felt it was time to make an updated video, entitled “The Global Movement.”  It showcased the growth of HPN and the impact of Christians from all over the world who had joined our mission to pray for Hollywood and the global entertainment industry.

As the ministry grew, we were able to hire another employee and expand our outreach further by launching HPN's Community Groups, which provide a space for entertainment professionals to gather for prayer and community while they navigate the ins and outs of life as believers in Hollywood. I was thrilled to see my oldest son, Christopher (a writer and Script Development Executive) join the cause and begin leading one of these groups. 

It has been an awesome and humbling thing to see our prayers break through the spiritual battle that tried to take me down decades before and see how the ministry is thriving. Over these last few years, HPN has encouraged more people to pray, donate, and walk alongside us than we could have imagined at its founding.

This year, in August 2026, HPN will celebrate its 25th year. After a quarter-century of growing the ministry from a small group of prayer warriors to a vibrant community, we now have a global mailing list of almost 30,000 recipients; a local community of almost 10,000 Christian professionals in Hollywood; 167 Chapters in 42 countries around the world; and a prayer team and staff that are a powerhouse of prayer, vision and faith.

I praise God for what He’s doing in Hollywood as a whole, but even more so, I praise him in my heart, as I watch Him grow the vision of the ministry, grow the community at HPN, and grow my faith.  I truly believe that prayer for Hollywood will bring cultural revival.

In August, Westside Entertainment Professionals gathered for an evening of fellowship, conversation, and faith-based encouragement. The night began with informal time to connect over food and drinks, followed by a relaxed discussion where attendees shared insights and encouraged one another in their respective work. As relationships continue to grow within the group, these gatherings provide a consistent space for professionals to find community and support while navigating the entertainment industry. The evening closed with a time of prayer for the group and the industry as a whole.

July’s gathering offered another opportunity for entertainment professionals to step away from the demands of the industry and connect in a relaxed, welcoming setting. Over small bites and drinks, attendees spent time building relationships before moving into a group discussion and check-in. The conversation provided an opportunity to share what people are experiencing in their work and encourage one another along the way. The night wrapped up with prayer, bringing the group together in support of one another and the entertainment industry.

In June, the Westside Entertainment Professionals Social brought together entertainment professionals for another evening of connection and community. Attendees had time to catch up over food and drinks before gathering for an open conversation about life and work in the entertainment industry. The discussion created space to share experiences, offer perspective, and encourage one another in navigating the industry with faith. The evening concluded with prayer for one another and for the broader entertainment community.

In May, the community met for an evening centered on connection, support, and shared faith. Guests enjoyed a relaxed social time with food and drinks before engaging in thoughtful conversation about their current experiences in the industry. The gathering wrapped up with a time of prayer, fostering encouragement and a sense of togetherness.

April’s gathering brought together creatives and professionals from across the entertainment industry for a night of community and conversation. The evening began with a casual social hour, followed by an open discussion focused on navigating the industry with faith and integrity. A time of prayer closed out the night, offering encouragement and unity among the group.

In March, industry professionals gathered for an evening of connection and encouragement in a welcoming, faith-centered space. Attendees spent time building relationships over small bites and drinks before transitioning into a relaxed group discussion, where they shared insights, experiences, and support. The night concluded with a meaningful time of prayer for one another and the entertainment industry.

February's Entertainment Professionals Social was positive and encouraging, with several new attendees joining the regular group. Among them were guests who were connecting with the community for the first time after attending a recent industry event, as well as a creative professional who had been hoping to participate for some time and was finally able to attend.

During the discussion, the conversation naturally shifted to the topic of personal convictions regarding the types of projects creatives choose to pursue within the entertainment industry, and how individuals seek spiritual guidance when making those decisions. It was a thoughtful and, at times, complex dialogue. The hosts provided gentle facilitation to ensure the discussion remained constructive and unified, ultimately guiding the group toward a meaningful closing time of prayer.

At this month's meeting we had meaningful conversation and prayer throughout the evening. One person shared a request around being targeted by a phone hacker, and the group prayed both for protection and peace, as well as for the hacker, which was a powerful moment. We also spent time praying over the new year and the ways people are sensing the Lord moving in their lives. It was one of those nights where it was hard to wrap up because there was so much to share and pray through!

We also had a brief, spontaneous show-and-tell moment where a few members shared creative work they’re developing. One guest shared her music page focused on old hymns and their history, and others talked about ways they’re using AI video tools to help develop and pitch show ideas. There was a lot of excitement around artists supporting artists.

July’s StageLight gathering took a fun turn with a good old-fashioned potluck cookout in celebration of the Fourth of July. Actors gathered to share a meal, mingle, and enjoy some time together outside of the usual rhythms of work and the industry.

With plenty of food, conversation, and a few games and prizes, the afternoon was a relaxed opportunity to build community and simply have fun together. It was a great reminder that fellowship can be as simple as sharing a meal and enjoying one another’s company.

In June, StageLight gathered Christian actors for a time of connection, encouragement, and fellowship. The group created space for actors at different stages of their careers to build relationships, strengthen their faith, and talk about what it means to pursue their calling in the entertainment industry.

Led by Joel McCrary, the gathering offered a meaningful opportunity to connect with others who share a desire to bring excellence, truth, and faith into their work.

In May, StageLight hosted another impactful gathering, bringing together a growing community of Christian actors committed to both their craft and their faith. The evening was marked by a strong sense of unity and openness, as attendees engaged in conversation, shared experiences, and encouraged one another in their journeys.

Following a time of fellowship and connection, the group moved into guided discussion and small group prayer, creating space for honest dialogue and spiritual support. The night closed with a time of corporate prayer, reinforcing the group’s shared vision to see God move in and through actors across the entertainment industry. Participants left feeling uplifted, inspired, and more deeply connected to both community and calling.

In March, StageLight gathered once again for an evening of connection, encouragement, and shared purpose among Christian actors. The night included time for fellowship over light snacks, as attendees reconnected and welcomed new faces into the community.

The gathering created space for meaningful conversation and reflection, as actors discussed the realities of pursuing their craft while remaining grounded in their faith. Small group discussions and prayer allowed for deeper connection and mutual encouragement. The evening concluded with a time of collective prayer, leaving many feeling strengthened, supported, and reminded of their calling to impact the industry with truth and excellence.

Our StageLight Actor's Fellowship held their monthly meeting on February 5th. The evening was marked by meaningful fellowship, shared food, and an atmosphere of joy, with approximately 35–40 actors in attendance. Special guest Abbie Cobb shared about her journey as a working Christian actor in Hollywood, offering insight and encouragement to those gathered.

Attendees then broke into small groups to discuss what it means to place their confidence in Christ, creating space for personal reflection, sharing, and prayer. The group later reconvened for a final time of collective prayer to close out the night. Many participants expressed that the gathering was deeply needed and shared that they left feeling inspired, encouraged, and spiritually refreshed.

On August 8th, Christian creatives gathered in North Hollywood for the HPN AI Create Night -- an inspiring evening of learning, exploration, and hands-on creativity. The night began with a thoughtful talk from our speaker Finney Premkumar, who addressed the fear surrounding artificial intelligence. He reminded us that many cultural fears about AI are not grounded in truth. While some technologists speak about AGI replacing human beings or human consciousness, consciousness is not theirs to create or give away—it belongs to God. God is greater than AGI, and technology cannot replace the uniquely human qualities He has given us.

Following Finney’s talk, attendees divided into groups of five to seven to create a one-minute short film, trailer, teaser, or other proof of concept. Each group had an experienced team leader who guided participants through the creative workflow using Machine Cinema’s AI filmmaking tools. The teams brought together people at every stage of their careers—from emerging creators looking to build their portfolios to established professionals working at major studios who feel called to explore AI’s role in filmmaking. Participants also discovered that AI filmmaking does not have to replace traditional production. Sarah Kelly, for example, incorporated real footage of herself and used AI-assisted visual effects to help bring her project to life, demonstrating the potential of a hybrid approach.

At the end of the evening, everyone gathered to watch and celebrate the completed projects. As people gained firsthand experience with the technology, much of the fear surrounding AI began to fall away. Participants came to understand both its limitations and its creative potential. The evening reinforced a hopeful message: human beings are not being replaced by AI, but it is wise to understand and thoughtfully engage with this technology. By embracing AI with discernment, faith, and creativity, filmmakers and media professionals can use it for good and help lead culture in a positive direction.

August’s Studio Prayer Walk brought 7 participants together on the Warner Bros. lot for an intimate time of prayer and intercession. In small groups, participants walked throughout the studio, lifting up the people who work there and the stories and projects being developed within its walls.

Though a smaller gathering, the group was able to pray with intention and focus, continuing HPN’s long-standing practice of covering Hollywood’s creative community in prayer. Each walk is a tangible expression of HPN’s desire to see the entertainment industry blessed and transformed from the inside out.

In July, 11 participants gathered at Warner Bros. for another Studio Prayer Walk, continuing HPN’s commitment to praying directly on the ground where stories are created and culture is shaped. Participants walked the lot in small groups, praying for the people, projects, and decisions that influence the entertainment industry.

The walk provided a focused time to slow down, pray intentionally, and bless the work happening throughout the studio. Month by month, these gatherings continue to create a consistent presence of prayer within Hollywood’s major creative spaces.

In June, HPN continued its monthly Studio Prayer Walk at Warner Bros., bringing 12 participants onto the lot for an intentional time of prayer and intercession. Walking in small groups, participants prayed over the people, productions, and creative work taking place throughout the studio.

The gathering offered a meaningful opportunity to step into one of Hollywood’s most influential creative spaces and intentionally invite God’s presence into the work happening there. Through these ongoing walks, HPN continues to faithfully cover the entertainment industry in prayer from the inside out.

In May, the Hollywood Prayer Network returned to the Warner Bros. studio lot for another Studio Prayer Walk, continuing a faithful practice of on-site prayer and spiritual investment in the entertainment industry. Ten participants gathered in small groups to walk the lot, interceding for the people, projects, and creative direction emerging from this influential studio.

This time of prayer created space for unity, reflection, and intentional blessing, reinforcing HPN’s vision to impact Hollywood from the inside out through consistent, on-the-ground intercession.

In April, HPN hosted another Studio Prayer Walk on the Warner Bros. lot, bringing together 19 faithful believers for a focused time of intercession within one of Hollywood’s most iconic creative environments. Guided by industry professionals, participants walked in small groups, lifting up the individuals, productions, and influence connected to the studio.

The gathering offered an intimate and purposeful space to pray for the industry at its source, continuing a rhythm that has been part of HPN’s mission for over a decade. Each step taken across the lot reflected a shared commitment to inviting God’s presence into the work happening there.

In March, Hollywood Prayer Network continued its long-standing tradition of Studio Prayer Walks with a gathering on the Warner Bros. studio lot. Fourteen participants joined in small groups to walk the grounds, praying over the people, projects, and creative work taking place within this influential space.

Led by Christians working in the industry, the walk provided a meaningful opportunity to bless the studio from within—covering the land in prayer and interceding for the stories being shaped there. It was a powerful reminder of the impact of consistent, intentional prayer in the heart of Hollywood.

On February 4th, Hollywood Prayer Network continued its long-standing tradition with a powerful Studio Prayer Walk at Warner Bros. Since 2010, these prayer walks have been led by Christians working within the industry who have a heart to bless their workplace.

Small groups gathered to walk the lot, pray over the land, and intercede for the people, projects, and creativity that flow from these iconic spaces. It was a rare opportunity to spiritually impact the heart of Hollywood from the inside out.

We had 16 attendees to kick off the prayer walks for the year, and are thankful for all who participated!

July’s Overflow Tech Fellowship took things outside for a relaxed “touch grass” BBQ, giving participants a chance to step away from their screens and enjoy good food and in-person connection. Christian professionals and creators gathered for a low-pressure time of conversation, community, and a much-needed break from the pace of work.

With kids welcome, the gathering created space for people to reconnect, get to know one another, and talk about faith, creativity, and technology. It was a refreshing opportunity to simply be together and continue building the Overflow community beyond the workplace.

In June, Overflow Tech Fellowship continued to bring together Christian professionals and creators working across video games, AI, technology, and entertainment. The monthly gathering provided a relaxed space to step away from the demands of work, connect with others in the industry, and share what’s happening in both professional and personal lives.

As the community continues to take shape, participants had the opportunity to build new relationships, encourage one another, and reflect on what it looks like to follow Christ while working in fields that are actively shaping culture and technology. The gathering was a simple but meaningful time of fellowship, conversation, and connection.

In May, Overflow Tech Fellowship brought together professionals and creators from a variety of technology-focused disciplines for another month of fellowship, encouragement, and prayer. As relationships continued to deepen, participants shared updates from their work and reflected on the ways God was moving in both their personal and professional lives.

The gathering fostered a spirit of curiosity, collaboration, and mutual support as attendees explored what it means to pursue excellence in their craft while remaining grounded in faith. The month served as another meaningful step in building a Christ-centered community for those helping shape the future of technology and entertainment.

In April, Overflow Tech Fellowship continued to grow as a community for Christians working at the intersection of technology and entertainment. Participants gathered for meaningful conversation, prayer, and connection, creating space to discuss both the technical and spiritual aspects of their work.

The gathering encouraged attendees to think intentionally about innovation, creativity, and stewardship while supporting one another through the realities of their respective industries. It was a valuable opportunity to build friendships, exchange insights, and be reminded that faith and vocation are deeply connected.

In March, Overflow Tech Fellowship gathered for its first monthly meeting following the group's launch, bringing together Christian professionals and creators working across technology, gaming, AI, and entertainment. The gathering provided a welcoming space for attendees to build relationships, share about current projects, and discuss the unique opportunities and challenges they encounter in their work.

The conversation was thoughtful and encouraging as participants reflected on how to faithfully engage their vocations while contributing to industries that have a significant impact on culture. Through prayer, fellowship, and mutual encouragement, attendees left strengthened in both their professional calling and their faith.

AI Doc Group Viewing + Dinner Discussion

On March 28th, the Overflow fellowship met up to watch "The AI Doc" together at AMC, with a dinner afterward. It was a rich and thought-provoking time of fellowship as we considered the future of our world and technology with the rise of AI.

In February, the Overflow Tech Fellowship officially launched, bringing together Christian professionals and creatives working at the intersection of technology and entertainment. From game developers and immersive media creators to AI practitioners and technical storytellers, attendees gathered for a morning of connection, conversation, and prayer centered on faithfully engaging their vocations.

The launch gathering focused on building relationships, sharing the unique opportunities and challenges of working in rapidly evolving fields, and seeking God's wisdom for the season ahead. Participants also helped shape the vision for the fellowship's future, offering ideas and encouragement as this new vocational community took its first steps. The morning was marked by thoughtful discussion, genuine fellowship, and a shared desire to see faith, innovation, and culture engage one another in meaningful ways.

The Living Word Scripture Reading group gathered in July to read through four books of the Old Testament: Esther, Ruth, Jonah, and Haggai. After a time of food and fellowship, the group of 8 dove into the intentional reading time, allowing scripture to speak to them as they read the stories back-to-back. The discussion time afterward was rich with connections between the four books, and reflections on what stood out to each person. As usual, the evening was enriching, uplifting, and nourishing - physically, relationally, and spiritually! 

Our Scripture Reading group gathered in April 2026 with 5 participants to read through the book of Acts together using the NIV translation. The gathering was rich in reflection as participants explored the early Church’s growth, mission, and reliance on the Holy Spirit. The group enjoyed thoughtful discussion after the time of reading, drawing connections between the experiences of the first believers and the life of the Church today. 

In June, Up Next brought together Gen Z creatives for an afternoon of community, prayer, and connection. The gathering created space for young creatives to build authentic friendships, encourage one another in faith, and talk about the callings God has placed on their lives.

Led by Ray and Tara Fernandez, the afternoon was a meaningful time of fellowship and encouragement as the group continued growing together and exploring what it looks like to live out faith and creativity in Hollywood.

April’s Up Next gathering took community building outside the living room and into an escape room adventure. The outing gave attendees a fun and memorable opportunity to strengthen friendships, work together, and enjoy a shared experience beyond the group’s regular meeting format.

As teams collaborated to solve puzzles and navigate challenges, participants discovered firsthand the value of communication, trust, and teamwork. The experience sparked plenty of laughter and created natural opportunities for deeper conversations and connection afterward.

More than just a social event, the outing reflected the relational heart of Up Next—creating spaces where young creatives can build authentic friendships and grow together as they pursue their callings in faith and creativity.

In March, members of Up Next gathered as part of HPN’s annual Oscar Watch Party, joining the broader Hollywood Prayer Network community for one of the industry’s most anticipated nights. The event offered a unique opportunity for young creatives to connect with one another while engaging with a major cultural moment in entertainment.

The gathering reflected Up Next’s vision of helping the next generation thoughtfully engage culture and pursue influence with purpose and faith.

The night was filled with excitement, community, and meaningful connection, reminding attendees that God is raising up young creatives to impact every corner of the entertainment industry.

In February, Up Next welcomed Gen Z creatives for another afternoon of fellowship, prayer, and authentic conversation. The gathering provided space for attendees to connect with peers navigating similar creative and professional journeys while encouraging one another to remain rooted in their faith.

Throughout the afternoon, participants shared about current projects, personal challenges, and hopes for the future, creating opportunities for meaningful prayer and support. The atmosphere was one of openness and genuine connection as attendees explored what it looks like to pursue creative excellence while following God’s leading in every area of life.
As Up Next continues to grow, gatherings like these serve as a reminder that young creatives do not have to navigate their callings alone but can find strength and encouragement in community.

On January 2nd, participants from across the country gathered online for the monthly Exploitation in Entertainment Prayer Call.

The call began with Scripture-based praise before moving into a focused time of prayer and intercession. Together, attendees prayed for greater awareness, protection, healing, and justice surrounding issues of exploitation, abuse, and trafficking, while seeking God's guidance and intervention within the entertainment industry and beyond.

On February 6th, the Exploitation in Entertainment Prayer Call welcomed participants for another month of prayer and intercession.

The gathering opened with praise through Scripture and continued with guided prayer focused on those affected by exploitation and abuse. Participants united in prayer for protection, restoration, wisdom, and increased awareness, while standing together in faith for lasting change and hope.

On March 6th, attendees joined the monthly Exploitation in Entertainment Prayer Call for a meaningful time of worship and prayer.

Beginning with Scripture-centered praise, the group spent the remainder of the call in guided intercession, lifting up individuals, families, communities, and industries impacted by exploitation and abuse. The gathering provided an opportunity to join together in prayer, advocacy, and hope.

On April 3rd, the Exploitation in Entertainment Prayer Call brought together participants for another month of focused prayer and encouragement.

The call opened with praise through God's Word and continued with guided prayer points addressing exploitation, trafficking, abuse, and related challenges. Attendees spent time interceding for protection, healing, justice, and the ongoing work of those serving vulnerable individuals around the world.

On May 1st, participants gathered virtually for the monthly Exploitation in Entertainment Prayer Call.

Together, the group engaged in Scripture-based praise and dedicated time to prayer and intercession. The call provided an opportunity to stand in unity for those affected by exploitation and abuse, while seeking God's wisdom, mercy, and transformative work in the entertainment industry and throughout society.

On June 5th, the Exploitation in Entertainment Prayer Call continued its mission of prayer, awareness, and advocacy.

Following a time of praise rooted in Scripture, participants joined in guided prayer for issues related to exploitation, human trafficking, abuse, and the protection of vulnerable individuals. The gathering served as a reminder of the power of faithful prayer and the importance of standing together on behalf of those in need.

On March 14th, Dance For Joy welcomed attendees for a refreshing morning of movement, community, and celebration.

The event began with a breathwork and stretching session that helped participants slow down, reset, and prepare for the day ahead. From there, the energy picked up during the Trending Dance Party, where guests of all experience levels joined in for an hour of fun, upbeat movement inspired by popular music and dance trends.

The morning concluded with a meaningful time of contemporary worship through dance, creating space for creative expression, gratitude, and connection in an open and welcoming environment.

Throughout the event, attendees enjoyed encouraging fellowship, joyful movement, and the chance to step away from the demands of everyday life. The raffle added an extra element of excitement, with several participants taking home prizes at the end of the gathering.

Whether seasoned dancers or complete beginners, everyone was invited to participate at their own pace, making for a vibrant and uplifting morning filled with energy, encouragement, and community.

My husband Peter and I recently had a fun double feature experience where we watched two movies based on the book of Exodus back-to-back on the big screen. First, a church near us showed The 10 Commandments in honor of the movie's 70th anniversary. Then that same weekend we caught a re-release of The Prince of Egypt in theatres.

I found myself invested in imagining what the life of Moses must have really been like. Since films compress an entire storyline into a couple hours, however, there were a few pieces of the puzzle that got a little glazed over.

For example, after Moses killed the Egyptian and escaped to Midian, each movie made it seem as though only a handful of years passed before he encountered God in a burning bush. But the scriptures tell us that this time in the deserts of Midian was much more drawn out and ultimately numbered around 40 years.

For all those years, Moses lived in the wilderness with his wife and her family, tending sheep. I can't help but wonder what those unseen decades - vacant even from movie adaptations - held for him.

Did Moses ever catch himself thinking about his past life in Egypt? Did he miss the family he'd been raised in? Did he ever question or doubt God?

At that time in history, the Israelites had been waiting for God to answer their prayers for freedom for generations. I wonder if Moses also wrestled with God's silence during his forty years in Midian.

Yet there's no doubt, when we review Moses' story, that the Lord's presence was within every detail, even if His voice wasn't heard.

It is apparent that the hand of the Lord held Moses safe within his basket when his mother released it upon the Nile.

We know it was God who caused Moses' basket to float to exactly the right spot where Pharaoh's daughter could find and rescue him. This allowed Moses to be safe from the ongoing infanticide of the time, and perfectly positioned him to grow up within the palace of Pharaoh himself.

God was with Moses all throughout his story. But there came one specific day which would become permanently memorialized. As Moses tended his flock in Midian, God's presence began to burn within a nearby bush. The Lord spoke, saying He had heard the cries of His people and would soon liberate them from their chains.

Why do I share all of this? Well, it has occurred to me that there is something we can all relate to within Moses' story.

Often in our lives we are quick to commemorate the burning bush moments where God's presence is seen on full display. But as we just saw from the life of Moses, God is often in the hidden background details of the story as well.

His presence may not have tangibly been felt until the burning bush moment, but in every scene His hand was constantly guiding Moses' life, positioning him for his purpose, and bringing about liberation for the children of Israel.

I wonder in which scene of the Moses story you find yourself today. Are you out upon deep waters, simply praying to survive? Are you hidden in the shadows of a secular enterprise, seeking to exemplify God through your work each day? Or are you out in the field, obscure in your service, wondering if God sees you at all?

Whether you find yourself in one of these scenes today, or another one besides, I want to remind you that the Lord sees you.

Everything our Father does is to bring about his best for his children. The moment that you're standing in today could be setting up an entire people group for deliverance. I encourage you to stay the course. Keep your ears open to hear His voice, and be faithful with whatever is in your hands while you wait. The Lord often does some of His best work behind the scenes.

In August, Upside Down Comedy continued its weekly gatherings with a variety of opportunities for comedians to practice, connect, and grow together. The month included improv sessions led by Marcus Evans and Joel McCrary, offering participants a chance to develop their skills in a collaborative setting.

The group also welcomed Pastor Dan and Sue Sherstad for a time of conversation and encouragement, before wrapping up the month with an open mic hosted by Robert G. Lee. Through its regular weekly rhythm, Upside Down Comedy continues to create space for comedians to build community, sharpen their craft, and encourage one another in their faith and creative pursuits.

July brought a great mix of comedy shows, improv, and regular meeting nights for Upside Down Comedy, with three opportunities to get out of our usual meeting space and enjoy some live comedy.

We kicked off the month with Robert G. Lee on July 7th, followed by Sarah Thompson’s Squeaky Comedy Show on July 12th at Crosspoint Student Center. On July 14th, Joel McCrary led the group in improv.

The following week featured Marcus and Friends Comedy Show on July 19th at Petty Cash Theatre, followed by Marcus Evans leading improv on July 21st. We then came together for the Upside Down Comedy/Squeaky Comedy Show on July 25th, before wrapping up the month with an Open Mic on July 28th.

It was a great chance to see our comedy community in action in a variety of settings, while continuing to make room for fellowship, creativity, and plenty of laughs.

June was a fun month for Upside Down Comedy! Robert G. Lee kicked things off with a teaching on The Road to Success and King David’s do’s and don’ts, followed by a visit from Pastor Dan and Sue Sherstad. Marcus Evans led the group in improv, and Asmou brought the Word and led an open mic with The Ratchet Christian.

June 23rd also marked our first night in our new space. After more than five years in the Middle Terrace, we were sad to leave a space that had been such a blessing to our comedy community, but we are REALLY grateful to still have a place to meet with a stage—and even access to a kitchen for food prep!

We also continued preparing for the return of our Writers Room in August, while celebrating David DeMena as he stepped away to focus on his own animated project.

In April, Upside Down Comedy gathered each Tuesday for a dynamic mix of creativity, growth, and community. 

The month kicked off with a practical and engaging session on social media led by The Ratchet Christian, followed by an improv-focused night with Marcus Evans that brought energy, spontaneity, and plenty of laughs. 

Mid-month, the group slowed things down with a casual hangout, drawing inspiration from Charlie Chaplin and other comedy greats, before closing out April with an open mic hosted by Robert G. Lee—giving comedians the chance to step up, share their material, and encourage one another. 

The true highlight of the month was having The Ratchet Christian come speak about social media. It was a genuinely impactful evening, and we’ve already seen members of our group taking her encouragement to heart. She shared not only practical insight about social media, but also about faith, authenticity, and having the courage to openly share what you believe.

We had a fun and full month together, continuing to build on what God has been doing in this community.

Robert G. Lee joined us again for a meaningful night together, continuing to invest in both our craft and community. Marcus Evans led us in an improv-focused evening that challenged us to stay present and listen well.

We also took time to simply be together at our St. Patrick’s Day potluck—sharing food, laughter, and connection as a group.

To close out the month, Joel McCrary brought us back into improv, followed by an open mic led by Jen Lewis, giving everyone another opportunity to get up, try things out, and continue growing.

Upside Down Comedy had a powerful start to the year on January 13th when Apostle Dan and Sue Sherstad joined us. They brought an encouraging, impactful message and took time to pray over everyone. It truly set the tone for the year and meant so much to our community.

We kicked off February with a writing-focused meetup led by Robert, where comedians brought new material and received thoughtful feedback, it was such a strong time of growth and collaboration. We also had a very successful improv meetup with Joel McCrary that brought a lot of energy and joy to the group.

Mid-month, Pastor Dan returned and brought a message on how comedy, especially laughter, can be a tool for healing. It was fantastic and deeply meaningful for everyone there. We wrapped up the month with a crowd work session that pushed people outside their comfort zones in the best way.

It’s also been exciting to see what’s happening beyond our meetups. Several of our comedians have started new open mics, expanding their influence in the comedy world. Sarah continues to grow her Squeaky Clean Comedy brand, now reaching out to local schools and churches with her events—so inspiring to watch!

One of the most meaningful things has been how we’ve continued to center everything in prayer. We begin each meetup praying for one another, for Hollywood, and we’re constantly hearing new testimonies of what the Lord is doing in people’s lives.

People are being encouraged in their faith, growing in their skills, and our community continues to thrive and genuinely love each other well.

Topic: “Don’t Give Up – It’s in His Power.”

The group discussed how many people in the entertainment industry experience seasons of disappointment, waiting, and hopelessness, and how God remains the author and finisher of our stories (Hebrews 12:2), inviting us into deeper healing and faithfulness. His ultimate aim is to remind us that we are deeply loved and cared for, and that when breakthrough comes, it is ultimately through His power and grace (1 Chronicles 29:11, 2 Chronicles 20:6, Matthew 19:26, Luke 1:37).

Discussion questions included:

• Where have you seen God’s hand in your story here in Los Angeles, writing a story different from the one you imagined for yourself?
• As you look back at those seasons, what did you learn from them?
• How does knowing He is in control help you surrender the story you have written for your life?
• When have you struggled to fully receive the love and care of God? What would it look like to surrender to His love and grace in your story?
• What promises are you still holding onto or waiting for God to bring to pass?

Six attendees gathered for the final Dreamer’s Collective meeting before the group leader's maternity leave. The topic was “Where Is God Inviting You to Be a Leader in His LA Story?” (1 Peter 2:9).

The group discussed how God uses broken people throughout Scripture and how He takes our own brokenness and uses it to bring healing to others. Conversation also centered on the power of personal testimony and where members were witnessing revival in the communities they are seeking to reach with the Gospel. The evening concluded with prayer for Hollywood Prayer Network and for revival throughout the city of Los Angeles.

As the group leader begins maternity leave, Dreamer’s Collective will take a summer pause and is expected to resume meeting in September 2026.

In April, The Dreamers Collective continued its rhythm of Saturday morning gatherings, offering women a peaceful space to slow down, connect deeply, and seek God together. Through Bible study, prayer, and intentional conversation, participants were encouraged to remain faithful to the dreams and assignments God had placed before them.

The month’s gatherings were filled with meaningful connection, practical encouragement, and shared prayer. As friendships deepened, the group continued to grow as a trusted community where women could be honest about both their victories and challenges while receiving support from one another.

In March, The Dreamers Collective continued to grow as women gathered on Saturday mornings for fellowship, prayer, and encouragement. Together, they spent time in Scripture, shared updates on the dreams and projects they were stewarding, and created space for both celebration and honest reflection.

The gatherings fostered deeper trust and connection as participants encouraged one another through the challenges and opportunities of pursuing God’s calling. It was a meaningful month of building community and strengthening one another in faith and purpose.

In February, The Dreamers Collective officially launched, bringing together a group of women on a Saturday morning to connect around faith, purpose, and the dreams God had placed on their hearts. The inaugural gathering created space for meaningful introductions, shared stories, and honest conversations about the callings and aspirations each woman was pursuing.

The morning was marked by encouragement, prayer, and a sense of anticipation for what God would do through this new community. As relationships began to form, participants left feeling supported, inspired, and reminded that they do not have to pursue their God-given dreams alone.

I recently attended the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, and like every year, it delivered on what it does best—bringing together people who are actually doing the work in faith-based media.

NRB isn’t just panels and programming. It’s conversations. It’s access. It’s the place where you can meet a distributor in the morning, a filmmaker in the afternoon, and end the night talking story, faith, and strategy with people who understand all three.

This year, one thing stood out more than anything else: Faith-based storytelling isn’t just growing—it’s getting sharper.

There’s a noticeable shift happening in how films are getting made—and more importantly, how they’re getting seen.

Platforms like The Faith Channel, led by John Stewart, are stepping in to create real opportunities for filmmakers who don’t want to get locked into long-term deals with little return.

At the same time, Hope Studios, under Kevin Christenson, is thinking globally in a way most studios aren’t—pulling stories from around the world instead of just exporting U.S.-based content.

And companies like Great American Media, with leadership from Kaitlyn Haubrich, continue to prove there’s a large audience that wants consistent, values-driven content—and knows where to find it.

On the distribution side, conversations with teams at Hawk Hill Pictures, BMG Global, Vision Video, and Collide Media Group were some of the most practical of the week.

And they all agreed: if you’re not thinking about distribution early, you’re already behind.
Budgets need to include post. Deliverables matter. Timelines matter. And “this film is for everyone” is still one of the fastest ways to confuse your audience—and your distributor.

Throughout NRB, I had the opportunity to spend time with Daniel Roebuck, Bill McAdams Jr., Kevin Sorbo, and Tyler Sansom—artists and filmmakers with very different backgrounds, but a similar perspective on storytelling.

Roebuck spoke about the importance of reaching audiences beyond “the choir,” encouraging filmmakers to create stories that connect with people outside church walls. He also challenged writers to focus on strong endings and unpredictable dialogue that keeps audiences engaged.

McAdams Jr. shared how personal loss shaped his approach to storytelling, explaining that audiences connect most deeply with honesty, grief, forgiveness, and humanity. His message was clear: faith works best in film when it’s revealed naturally through authentic storytelling.
Sorbo discussed the opportunities and challenges AI is bringing into filmmaking while encouraging actors and filmmakers to keep learning every part of the craft. He emphasized the importance of refusing to let fear dictate your career or creative choices.

Sansom spoke about the life-changing impact faith-based films can have when ministry and storytelling work together. Through First Capital Films, he continues creating projects designed not only to entertain audiences, but to genuinely change lives.

One of my favorite parts of NRB is seeing who’s not just talking about projects—but actually making them happen.

At just 20 years old, Lauren Havel is already doing what many filmmakers spend decades trying to do—making and distributing feature films. She started young, kept creating, and didn’t wait for permission to begin.

JD DeWitt is leaning into stories that don’t wrap everything up neatly—and that’s exactly why they connect.

Ashley Elaine is building the kinds of projects she wants to see instead of waiting for them to show up.

And Cheryl McKay continues to expand across platforms—film, television, books—without waiting on one lane to open.

None of these women followed the exact same path—and that’s encouraging.

Some of the most useful takeaways didn’t come from stages—they came from workshops and side conversations.

In the pitching workshop, Catherine Clinch broke things down in a way that a lot of writers need to hear: “If you can’t clearly explain your story, no one’s going to connect to it. Pitching isn’t about selling. It’s about clarity.”

On a completely different side of the process, Ed Grifenhagen is doing something you don’t hear about often—serving as a “set shepherd.” He provides spiritual support on film sets. And if you’ve ever been on a set, you know how needed that is.

That same mindset carries into the Christian Film Foundation, which is focused on equipping filmmakers not just creatively, but spiritually.

Because this industry will test both.

If there’s one thing NRB reinforces every year, it’s this: You can’t do this alone.

Organizations like the Hollywood Prayer Network and Influence Women aren’t just “nice to have”—they’re part of what helps people stay grounded, connected, and moving forward.

This industry can get isolating fast. Having people who understand both the creative side and the faith side isn’t a bonus—it’s necessary.

What makes NRB valuable isn’t just access to industry professionals—it’s the reminder that there are other people trying to navigate this space with both excellence and faith intact.
In Hollywood, it’s easy to feel isolated. Everyone is busy. Everyone is building. And sometimes it can feel like you’re carrying your projects, goals, and calling alone.

That’s why spaces like NRB matter.

Over the course of the week, I watched filmmakers encourage one another, distributors openly share advice, writers ask honest questions, and creatives connect in ways that will likely lead to future collaborations. Some of the most important conversations weren’t scheduled at all—they happened in hallways, coffee lines, and late-night conversations after the panels ended.

That kind of community matters more than people realize. Because while talent and strategy are important, relationships are still one of the biggest parts of this industry.

There’s a lot happening in the faith-based industry right now. More platforms. More content. More opportunity. But also more noise. What stood out at NRB wasn’t just who’s creating—it’s how they’re thinking. More intentional. More strategic. More honest. And maybe that’s the shift:

Not just making faith-based content—but making better films. Because at the end of the day, the goal isn’t just to say something. It’s to create something people actually want to watch—and walk away from changed.

August’s HomeBase gathering brought together 25 people for a great night of connection and prayer!

After food and fellowship, we split into small groups of three. The prompt was to "share whatever you've lost hope for, in your life and what you need encouragement in. The other two people in the group then prayed and poured out hope and encouragement. It was an incredible time of sharing and building each other up!

July’s HomeBase gathering brought together 23 filmmakers, storytellers, and entertainment professionals for an evening of fellowship, connection, and prayer. The group was made up of a mix of familiar faces and new members, with approximately three-quarters regulars and one-quarter newcomers. It was encouraging to see both longtime members and new faces coming together as part of the HomeBase community.

The evening continued with time in prayer groups, where attendees had the opportunity to connect more personally and pray for one another. The groups went wonderfully, creating space for honest conversation, encouragement, and focused prayer.

June’s HomeBase gathering created another opportunity for filmmakers to step away from the demands of the industry and come together in community. The evening offered a welcoming space to connect, catch up, and build relationships with others who share a desire to live out their faith in Hollywood.

The heart the evening was the time spent in small prayer groups, where participants were able to share more personally and pray for one another. These groups allowed for meaningful conversation and encouragement, as attendees lifted up their lives, work, and creative callings in prayer.

HomeBase continues to be a place where relationships are strengthened and entertainment professionals can find both community and a dedicated space to pray for one another and the industry.

May’s HomeBase gathering brought together filmmakers, storytellers, and entertainment professionals for another meaningful evening of connection and prayer. The night began with a shared meal and time for conversation, giving attendees an opportunity to catch up with old friends and welcome new faces into the community.

As the evening continued, participants gathered in small groups for focused prayer, lifting up one another’s personal lives, professional pursuits, and creative callings. The atmosphere was marked by authenticity, encouragement, and a shared desire to see God move in Hollywood through the lives and work of those He has called into the industry. HomeBase continues to provide a place where community is strengthened, relationships deepen, and faith is put into practice through prayer.

In April, HomeBase once again welcomed members of the Christian film community for an evening of food, fellowship, and prayer. Attendees gathered in a relaxed and welcoming environment to connect with one another, build new relationships, and encourage fellow creatives navigating the unique challenges of working in Hollywood.

After sharing a meal together, the group broke into smaller prayer circles where participants prayed over personal needs, creative projects, career decisions, and opportunities to be a light within the entertainment industry. The evening served as a reminder of the power of community and the importance of creating intentional spaces where faith and creativity can intersect.

HomeBase went great this past gathering—we had 26 people join us, which was really encouraging.

We tried something a little different this time by doing men’s and women’s prayer groups instead of our usual co-ed groups, and it went really well. People seemed to really like it, and it created a meaningful space for connection and prayer. We’re considering alternating between co-ed and separate groups every few months.

As always, we spent the first part of the evening eating and hanging out, which continues to be a really sweet and casual time together, before moving into prayer. It was a full and meaningful night, and we’re grateful for how God continues to meet us in this space.

The HomeBase meeting on Sunday, February 1st was a success, with 25 people attending. The group overlapped with the Grammy party and the house had great energy during dinner and hangout time, followed by a smooth transition into five prayer groups that went really well.

The HomeBase meeting on January 4th had 16 people in attendance. They enjoyed food and hangout time, and started with an encouraging full-group prayer of gratitude for answered prayers. Then we split into three prayer groups that met for two hours, all of which went really well. Everyone was a HomeBase regular, making it a solid group overall.

The August Inbetweeners Animation Fellowship welcomed 9 animation professionals for another evening of creative sharing, fellowship, and prayer. As part of the ongoing Animation Workshop, members shared updates on their creative projects and received encouragement and prayer from the group.

Everyone enjoyed fellowship over delicious California Chicken Cafe wraps, and the evening concluded with one-on-one prayer and personal prayer requests.

The July Inbetweeners Animation Fellowship brought together 11 animation professionals for continued fellowship, creativity, and prayer. Members continued the Animation Workshop, sharing progress on their creative projects and receiving prayer and encouragement from the group.

Fellowship took place over delicious California Chicken Cafe wraps before the meeting wrapped up with one-on-one prayer and personal prayer requests.

The June Inbetweeners Animation Fellowship brought together 14 animation professionals for fellowship, conversation, and prayer. The evening included a panel discussion on the spiritual implications of AI in the Animation Industry, a timely topic for members navigating the impact of this new technology. Over California Chicken Cafe wraps, members connected before closing with one-on-one prayer and personal prayer requests.

May’s gatherings featured continued project sharing and collaboration through the group’s ongoing Animation Workshop. Members presented creative work, participated in brainstorming and feedback sessions, and celebrated progress on projects in development. Together, the community continued to create a space where artists could be encouraged, challenged, and supported in both their craft and their faith.

In April, Inbetweeners continued its mission of equipping and encouraging creatives through both virtual and in-person gatherings. Members shared updates on their work, participated in project discussions, and offered support and prayer for one another’s creative and professional pursuits. The month highlighted the value of community in the creative process.

Our March gathering was a sweet and creative night together, with 8 people in attendance. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we spent time singing the Irish hymn Be Thou My Vision, which set a meaningful tone for the evening.

We also played a really fun and creative game called 100 Blank Cards, where everyone made up and drew their own cards before playing—it ended up being a huge hit and brought a lot of laughter and connection.

We shared fellowship over dinner together and closed out the night with one-on-one prayer, taking time to lift up individual requests.

It was a simple but rich evening, full of creativity, connection, and meaningful prayer.

The Inbetweeners Animation Fellowship held their first meeting of 2026 on January 20th. The gathering was well attended, with 25 participants present. The group enjoyed a time of fellowship over good food, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

A highlight of the evening was a live Zoom interview with legendary animator Tony Bancroft, who joined remotely from his home in Tennessee. His insights and experiences provided meaningful encouragement and inspiration to those in attendance.

In May, Service of Song gathered worship leaders and musicians for an evening of fellowship, conversation, and prayer. The evening began with snacks and time to connect before the group gathered for a conversation around “Behind the Veil,” creating space to reflect on the heart and calling of leading others into worship.]

The evening concluded with a dedicated time of prayer, as the group encouraged one another in their callings and sought the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit together.

On May 7th, the historic First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood buzzed with excitement, as over 300 members of the Hollywood Prayer Network (HPN) community converged for the highly-anticipated 2026 National Day of Prayer (NDOP) celebration. All across the campus, various venues hosted carefully curated stations for fellowship, prayer, worship, and powerful encounters with God.

The focus on prayer, creativity, and inspiration encapsulated the heart of HPN's ministry, as industry professionals from all across the city came together to pray in the heart of the world's most influential mission field. As part of HPN's year-long 25th anniversary celebration, the night delivered on every level - spiritually, relationally, and creatively. 

The night kicked off with a fiesta of fellowship in the rose garden, where HPN's block party served up a delectable SoCal feast that included fresh tacos, customizable churro creations, and a delightful assortment of donuts to round out the nosh. A live DJ spun a toe-tapping soundtrack that set the mood, as friends new and old forged connections over free food.

The festive feast culminated in the ceremonial presentation of a birthday cake to commemorate 25 years of HPN's vibrant ministry. This time of social and physical nourishment brought an electric energy to campus, and helped prepare everyone for the spiritual journey ahead. 

The main event drew the crowd in from the courtyard for an incomparable time of worship, as ten powerhouse musicians and vocalists from ten different churches came together to create a joyful offering of praise to the Lord. This soul-stirring time helped everyone shift focus from conversations and community to our Creator.

Founding Director Karen Covell and Pastor JT Tarter took the stage to open the program, pray, and invite everyone into the evening of prayer and reflection. Program Director Kelry Kirschenmann gently guided the group to seek the Lord, as everyone dispersed to visit the creative prayer stations, spend time with God, and linger where they felt drawn.

In the Crossley Theatre, the living word of the bible was given fresh life by talented performers, who filled the atmosphere with declarations of truth from Scripture.

There was space to listen, receive, and allow the word to resonate, before taking the time to journal about where the Holy Spirit was moving and speaking to each person's heart.

It was a time of refreshing that invited participants deeper into the Lord's peace and instruction for their lives. 

In the back room of the Mears Center, with the strains of worship spilling in, participants were invited into a time of reflection at the foot of the cross.

Inspired by the gospel story of the woman breaking an alabaster jar to anoint Jesus' feet with precious oil, this station provided an intentional, intimate space to pray about what precious thing to release into the Lord's hands.

Hearts were deeply stirred, as beautiful words of release were written on shards of pottery and left at the foot of the cross in a humble act of surrender. 

Over in Wiley Chapel, a quiet atmosphere invited attendees to engage with artwork, as they contemplated pieces carefully chosen to draw viewers into a time of closeness with God.

From the washing of feet to walking on water, each image highlighted a different moment or motif from scripture.

Viewers responded as the Spirit led them, in a time of journaling and sketching that allowed them to record how the Lord was speaking to them in this sanctified space.

Back in the Mears Center, the band continued to saturate the atmosphere with praise during an extended time of worship.

Trusted leaders took the stage between worship songs to lift up prayers for the entertainment industry, Los Angeles, and our church community at large. In the prayer room at the back of the Mears Center, attendees were able to receive personal, one-on-one prayer from our powerful prayer team.

In this free-flowing space, participants were able to sing, journal, dance, sit in silence, and receive prayer as they were led, allowing each person to be ministered to as they had need.

As the evening wound down, the community gathered for a final moment of worship and prayer.

Overall, it was a beautiful night that brought together the best of HPN - from food and fellowship, to worship and praise, to personal encounters with God.

This year's NDOP was an undeniable triumph, as the celebration lifted spirits, stirred hearts, and - most importantly - released an outpouring of prayer into the heart of Hollywood.
