Who Are You?

By News & Articles No Comments

Who are you?  A man? A woman? A doctor? A mom? A Dad? A teacher?  Quite often we identify who we are by what we do?  The question is do we do what we do because of who we are, or have we become who we are because of what we do?  We are, after all, human beings not human doers.

So the question remains…who be ye?

Sometimes our authentic selves are cloaked in mindless repetition, unquestioned tradition, and illogical social mores that have become a source of personal security. The very thought of departure from these bastions of conformity create a mind numbing fear that is crippling.

Who are you? (CSI theme)  Follow the evidence.  By their fruit you will recognize them.” (Matthew 7:16)  If who you believe you are differs from what you do, an adjustment must be made.  This cognitive dissonance is a major source of depression and other related psychosis. It is written: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” (Proverbs 13:12)  Bringing your doing into alignment with your being is a major step toward peace of mind.

But you must first determine who you are. How do we do that?  There is an old saying… “A leopard never changes his spots”. And “A rose by any other name is still a rose.”   It is now common knowledge that our gnome or genetic coding determines our physical make up and can determine our propensity toward certain behavior and desires. The sociological question has been “Is it nurture or nature?”  Does our environment determine who we come or is it our genetic coding?  I submit that environments change and can be manipulated, but your DNA cannot (so far). I believe that just below the surface of societal influences and restraints is a seething, rumbling river of predestined authenticity. Who are you?

Ask yourself what is it you would love to do 24/7 that you would even do for free.  If the answer ignites a flame and releases a passion never before experienced, you are significantly closer to the revelation of you.

Embrace your uniqueness. Nothing would be more tragic than to reach the top of the ladder of success only to find that the ladder was leaning against the wrong building.  As the immortal Bard penned in Hamlet Act 1, Scene 2.  “This above all, to thine own self be true and it must follow as the night the day. Thou canst not then be false to any man.”  Who are you?

Prayer Initiative for Hollywood Sees First Results

By News & Articles No Comments

Several years ago a strategic prayer initiative was launched in and for the entertainment industry in Hollywood. The leaders of this Hollywood Prayer Initiative are now reporting back how God has been answering their prayers so far.

1. Believers who have been in the industry for 15-20 years report that the atmosphere of the American film market changed from ‘oppressive’ to ‘light’.
2. A number of people were led to the Lord.
3. There’s an increasing interest in films being produced by Christian-run companies, and some investors expressed their desire to fund faith-based movies now in the pipeline for production.
4. There is a greater sense of cooperation and unity among the Christian film organizations who have often been competitive and divided in the past.

God’s Glory

By News & Articles No Comments

The glory of God is described in the bible in a number of ways.  It is demonstrated by His opulent and unending wealth. It is written:’The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty.” (Haggai 2:8)  The glory of God is manifested as His overwhelming presence. It is written: “The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang:” He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God.” (2nd Chronicles 5:13-14)  While God’s presence and limitless wealth may be extremely impressive to us, the glory that impresses God is the manifestation of His will.  It is written: “I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.” (John 17:4)  Jesus knew exactly what pleased His Father. Doing His will, period. In addition, the life of Jesus was fulfilled when He obeyed His Father. It is written: “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” (John 4:34)
Jesus was actually nourished by obeying and glorifying His Father.

Mankind is made in the image and likeness of God.  God, our Father has a will and so do we. Regardless of our genetic predispositions and biological urges, we can do whatever we will to do. Therefore, since we have the ability to choose and we choose to obey God and be what He created us to be, God is both pleased and glorified. It is written: “Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.” (John 5:19-20, 30)   The life of Jesus not only demonstrated who God the Father is, but He also demonstrated what a righteous Son of God looked like.

Lucifer was created for a specific purpose and when he functioned in that purpose of worshipping God, God was glorified. However, when Lucifer sought glory for himself and deviated from his purpose, he denied God glory.  Unfortunately, mankind followed suit shortly thereafter.  In fact of all of God’s creations Lucifer and Mankind are the only creatures that denied God glory. Nature is a testament to God’s wisdom.  When the animal and plant life are able to function as they were designed, the planet and all on it benefit. The natural course of events is not always pretty and painless, but it is in order and eventually works out to God’s glory.  Mankind’s interference and defiance of natural order has devastated the ecosystem. Hundreds of species have disappeared because of greed and senseless pride.  Failure to adhere to nature’s system is not the only violation that has brought havoc in the Earth. Man’s refusal to function as God has designed has taken its toll.  We have those called to be doctors working on assembly lines, those who have been preordained to lead the community hiding behind their doors concerned only about their four and no more, called ministers of the gospel seeking satisfaction in the private sector.  It is written:” The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:4-5)  This scripture clearly describes a relationship prior to physical birth. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that God almighty knew us and communed with us and spoke assignments into our lives.  I say (not the bible) that we began a process of spiritual amnesia at birth.  The overwhelming cacophony of the world’s stimuli causes us to forget what the Lord spoke to us in eternity past.  Even when glimpses of memory do surface, fear, pride, and selfishness convince us to reject our assignment and deny God His Glory.  We, like Satan, seek our own glory. Mankind’s blatant refusal to be who and what God has designed them to be has created mass confusion.

I beseech you beloved, pray and seek God and ask Him to remind you of your assignment.  It’s never too late. Any day above six feet is a good day.  Like Jesus Christ, you too will be nourished physically, mentally, and spiritually.  Your family and community will also benefit.  Fear not, God has your back. It is written: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.”  (Romans 8:28-30)  It’s a Win-Win.  Selah.

Get Real

By News & Articles No Comments

I often hear people complain about a movie not being “realistic” enough, or being too “farfetched” or “unbelievable.”  As if a movie must, at least on its surface, portray life as it really is.  Heaven forbid we should stray too far from reality – let’s bring it back down to earth as quickly as possible and keep it dark and serious.
