Bridge Net is the Local Chapter of the Hollywood Prayer Network in Sydney, Australia.

Australian Film and Culture:

Films produced in Hollywood dominate the cinema in Australia. In 2006, Australians spent $867m at the box office, 86% of which was dedicated to Hollywood film. Many of Hollywood’s most successful media professionals are Australian, and many more continue to travel to Hollywood to further their careers. Much of Australian pop culture is formed by Hollywood, with some of the highest-selling Australian magazines concentrating on the life and times of Hollywood personalities. The influence that Hollywood has on Australia is undeniable.

Albeit smaller, Australia is not without its own influence. It was home to the world’s first feature length film, “The Kelly Gang,” produced in 1906. Despite the fact that the average cost of an Australian film was $4m compared to an average cost of $60m on a big budget Hollywood film, Australian film still only made $2m less each on average in 2006. Australia is also becoming a more popular filming location, due, in part, to the beauty of its coastlines, the vastness of its countryside, and the cheap comparative cost of shooting.

Our Goals:

We believe it is our responsibility and our honour to pray for each other and stand together in praying for others who share our passion in the entertainment industry.

At Bridge Net, our aim is two-fold:

*To develop a solid network of support for media professionals involved in the entertainment industry in Australia.

*To establish and grow a group of people dedicated to the cause of praying for the entertainment industry both locally and overseas.

For those of us who are media professionals ourselves, our desire is to show the difference God has made in us through our art. We hope to stand in the gap for others, as He has stood in the gap for us, and to bridge the gap between Australia and Hollywood by standing together in unity with our prayer partners around the world.

A light is not meant to be looked at. It is meant to illuminate.
