Writer / Actor / Producer / Pastor
Rev. Douglas Folsom recently relocated from Los Angeles to Baltimore because of his wife’s new job at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins.
After twelve years in Hollywood, Douglas brings a wealth of experience ministering to arts, entertainment, and media professionals. Besides working as a filmmaker in the industry, he led fellowship and Bible study groups at CBS Studios, Walt Disney/ABC Studios, and Los Angeles Center Studios.
Because of Maryland’s tax incentives for film production along with the filming restrictions and security issues in Washington, DC, some shows such as House Of Cards are finding it easier use Baltimore to double for Washington. In addition to increased production in Maryland, the Maryland Film Festival continues to grow in popularity with year-round events. A number of nearby universities offer degrees in media and the arts such as Johns Hopkins University, Loyola University, Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Stevenson University, Towson University, University of Baltimore, and the University of Maryland. Five local television stations, professional theater groups, and numerous radio stations also populate the area. The Maryland Writers Association has a strong presence as well. With these factors in mind, there are opportunities to offer prayer support for people in these media and entertainment-related professions. In addition, we want to encourage them to pray for Hollywood.
Thus, starting in early 2014, Douglas plans to gather interested individuals in the Baltimore area who are either working professionals, or pursuing creative careers in entertainment, media, and the arts for monthly meetings of fellowship, encouragement, prayer, and networking. The initial meetings will most likely take place in the Roland Park/Towson area. For more information, contact Douglas at the address above.
